The Black Ribbon Eel (also known as the Leaf-Nosed Moray Eel, Bernis Eel, or the Black Ribbon Fish) is a Moray Eel naturally found in lagoons and reefs in the Indo-Pacific ocean. The Back Ribbon Eel has a thin body with high dorsal fins and its long protruding nostrils.
The Black Ribbon Eel is reef safe, can reach up to three feet in length or longer in captivity, and will generally live for three years. These fish will require a minimum tank size of 75 gallons, with a pH level of 8.1 to 84, salinity of 1.020 to 1.025, a water temperature of 72°F to 78°F, and moderate water flow. Adult males develop a black body with a vibrant yellow dorsal fin, which adds to the appeal of these eels in the home aquarium. Suitable tank mates for the Black Ribbon Eel include the Lionfish (Pterois spp.), Emperor Angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator), Triggerfish (Balistidae family), Copperband Butterflyfish (Chelmon rostratus), and the Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus).
