Grey Poma Angelfish Care Facts

Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Diet: Omnivore
Reef Safe: No
Minimum Tank Size: 120 gallons
Max Size: 8 inches
The Grey Poma Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus melansoma, also known as the Black Velvet Angelfish  has a greyish black body and features a splash of light grey beginning behind the eyes and along the upper body, with a yellow face and highlights of yellow on the fins. Like many large Angelfish their appearance will change dramatically from the juvenile to adult stage. Due to aggression towards other Angelfish they are best kept singly but will do well with other larger fish.

They are not reef safe, as they will nip at soft and stony polyp corals, sessile invertebrates and clam mantles. Diet should include a variety of spirulina, marine algae, high quality angelfish preparations, mysis and brine shrimp, 3 times daily.

The juvenile coloration will display the same greyish black body and light grey splash, along with a thick yellow and white band just behind the eyes and a thinner yellow band along the front of the face.
