The Porkfish (Anisotremus virginicus) is a vibrant grunt fish found among the tropical waters of the Atlantic. They inhabit reefs and rocky bottoms where they search for small benthic crustaceans and other invertebrates. Their body is silver with horizontal yellow stripes, and two vertical black bars near their eye and gill. They require a lot of room to swim and do best if kept in schools. Adults can be housed in semi-aggressive fish-only systems, but juveniles should be kept with other peaceful fish of similar size. They feed on a variety of meaty foods, including mollusks, crustaceans and occasionally smaller fish. They are not recommended for reef aquariums and should not be kept with prized invertebrates.
