The Red-Lined Wrasse (Halichoeres biocellatus), also known as the False-Eye Wrasse, can be found in shallow and seaward reefs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Males have a dark green or blue body with vibrant orange or red stripes on their chest and face; while females and juveniles have a burgundy/maroon coloration with horizontal white stripes. All specimen have two large sports on their dorsal fin which resemble eyes, meant to intimidate predators. They spend much of their time hiding among rock and coral in search of small invertebrates to feed on, such as worms and amphipods. They reach a maximum size of 4 inches and should be kept in an aquarium with at least 50 gallons, as they need plenty of space to swim. They should be kept with other peaceful fish and do best if kept in a bonded pair or singly. Their diet, which is carnivorous by nature, should consist of mysis or krill, being fed 2-3 times a day.
